Our annual Open House will happen on Saturday, June 8 starting at 9am
By Orange Rural Fire Department
June 4, 2024
This year marks the 56th year of Orange Rural Fire Department and the 87th year of the Hillsborough Fire Department. The two departments merged into one in the late 90's to better serve the citizens of the town and Central Orange Fire Districts. The fire district roughly runs north to south from Carr Store Road in Cedar Grove to New Hope Church Road in Chapel Hill. It runs east to west from Wayside Baptist Church to the Eno River near Efland. Each year, we hold our open house on the weekend closest to June 11th. Orange Rural was officially recorded on June 11, 1968. We hope everyone will come to our Station 1 and meet some of our firefighters, check out some of our equipment and and support your local fire department. There are twelve different fire departments that respond to territory inside of Orange County. Not sure who your fire department is? Come see us and we'll help you figure it out! Did you know that the fire department's ability to handle fires has an impact on your insurance premiums? Come to the open house and we'll teach you where to look in your policy and explain how the ratings are created. Have you ever been curious to how 911 knows who to send to an emergency or why firefighters show up when you call the rescue squad? Come see us at our open house to learn more.
Open house will be Saturday June 8th from 9am to 5 pm at our main fire station. The station is located at 206 S. Churton Street in Hillsborough. Parking is available in the deck behind Weaver Street Market. We'll have equipment on display, a game for kids to spray some water and firefighters on hand to answer questions. A food truck may stop by around noon with some different food options.
