We had a busy weekend around the county dealing with fires that spread to wooded areas and lawns. Our friends at Eno Fire and Rescue had the largest wildland fire with around 12 acres burned and many houses saved. During Red Flag warning periods, residents and property owners are urged to not start or kindle fires. However, fires that burned in the days or even weeks prior to the Red Flag warning periods can reignite and spread if wind and humidity conditions are right. Coals and brands covered by ash can be uncovered and spread resulting in damaging and dangerous fires. Thank you to all of the structural firefighters working to stop wildland fires and for NC Forest Service personnel for training, coaching, educating and maintaining the forests in our county and across the state. It takes a team to keep our communities safe when disasters happen. If you are a homeowner or renter and want to learn more ways you ca help and support these amazing teams by protecting your own properties, visit the web sites of the NC Forest Service or the National Interagency Fire Center. Stay fire safe inside and outside of your homes!
